Razwana lost her mother at a very small age (5years), the age when a child is in the warm arms of her mother this girl was asked to bid a goodbye to her mother forever. She belongs to a muslim family of 8 siblings. Life was a struggle as her father was a seasonal worker who would thrive on small electrical repairing work. . His earning was not enough for his 8children to have even the basic necessities, forget about the luxuries. She was forced to drop her school when she was in 8th standard. Then she learned some stitching and was married to one of her aunt’s relative at the age of 21.
Her husband also did not have a regular profitable job to fulfil the needs of his growing family. They are the parents of 2sons whose needs were also growing day by day, so Razwana decided to support her husband by utilizing her skills in tailoring. She had a sewing machine which she brought with her after her marriage from her father’s house. They also had a bangle shop which was looked after by her husband. To supplement their income, they decided to take some loan at a high interest rate that was 5% per month. But their need to earn more was not met, instead their condition worsened day by day as the interest rate started increasing. Then one day, she met someone from her community who was a Shikhar client.they gathered all information about Shikhar and after realizing that the support from Shikhar will benefit them, they approached and borrowed Rs7000 (seven thousand rupee) for the first time. They utilized the money to add bangles in their shop. On the other hand Razwana was working hard to support her husband. Initially she collected the stitching work from customers’ home and delivered the finished products back. Slowly she got work at home and earned Rs1000 from this in the first month itself. As the workload increased, Razwana found it difficult to handle this work as well as the household work. Her mother-in-law then started shouldering the work thus enabling her to increase her work strength. They bought another sewing machine for the added resource of her mother-in-law.
Now it has been 4 successful years that she is receiving Shikhar’s support. She says that the only dream she has is to provide all the luxury and care to her children from which she was deprived in her young age. She says their hardwork and Shikhar’s support have started giving them rewards. They have bought a new Television, Cooler and Refrigerator. Now with the profit they are planning to buy a new house somewhere nearby.
