Lakshmi was not very old when her husband fell ill. All of a sudden she forund herself in a state of stress and was clueless of what she would do. Her husband was an alcoholic and he used to misbehave with her. Life was terrific for her. A mother of 7children was shattered and was groping in dark. Due to her husband’s prolonged illness, the family could not earn much. She then started making food and delivering to nearby offices. She was able to earn 6000 a month. After some years of struggle, she was able to sustain, manage and overcome her hardships. But God had some other plans for her.
A serious health problem knocked her door and their lives changed altogether. But she was a strong willed who overcame all the difficulties and started from scratch. Her husband also supported her and they started selling vegetables. Her husband provides home delivery of vegetables; she manages the vegetable shop, and also makes and sells earthen pots. Initially the work was not profitable and a huge expenditure incurred during Lakshmi and her husband’s treatment for which they had taken debt. During their difficult days, they met with Shikhar’s Executive and Lakshmi says she received boundless encouragement and financial support from Shikhar Microfinance Pvt.Ltd. At first she took a loan of Rs 10, 000(ten thousand) and invested in her venture. Later two more loans were taken by her. She managed to marry 3 of her children from the savings which she could generate from her business. She has been very regular in repaying her loan. Lakshmi is indeed courageous who stood against all odds and is a successful vendor.
