A group of professionals linked to each other through diverse associations came together to form Shikhar. Although these individuals that came together are engaged in varied lines of work, but Shikhar brought them on one platform with a common intention to serve the underprivileged sections of the society.

Shikhar Development Foundation (SDF) came into existence on 5^th September 2007, with intent to develop and implement community focused development interventions. SDF through its intervention envisions reaching to the ultra poor, considering women as the nucleus of all its programs. Shikhar Development Services (SDS), an undertaking of SDF, is an upcoming not for profit Microfinance Institution being registered under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act; it envisages leveraging the benefits of micro-lending to the marginalized rural and urban communities through sequential lending providing both savings and loan facilities at various levels. SDS aims to provide income generating solutions and investment opportunities to the grassroots for their overall social and economic development.
